Talk About Chutzpa!
Independent Producer Creates Television Series From Scratch.
By Laurie Smith
“I declared from the beginning that It’s All About Youth would be an award-winning
television show,” effused Laurie Faulkerson, who won Honorable Mentions in The Accolade.
She is the creator, producer, writer, promoter, host, and owner of the Christian-based
talk show originating from the CW TV-11, KPLR, in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
It’s All About Youth, far from local, can be seen in 31 states in the U.S.,
throughout Canada on The Miracle Network, and in 168 countries, on both Christian
and secular television. All of this accomplished with absolutely no prior professional
training in broadcasting, no formal education and no relatives in the business.
Faulkerson continues the radio show that she created prior to the TV program, owns
her own production company, L.A.F. Productions, and within the past year, opened
a 300-seat theater in Festus, Missouri, where she hopes to eventually tape her show
with a live audience.

Clubhouse TV
2007 Award of Excellence
By Yayoi Lena Winfrey
A briskly paced half-hour television
show all about golf, Clubhouse TV, is executive produced and hosted by
the inimitable James Brown. No. Not that James Brown--although this one’s
vibrant personality could easily rival the other’s.
Featuring professional golfers offering insider tips, the series also includes celebrities
trying their hand at a game once reserved for only the elite. As a consummate host,
Brown bubbles with enthusiasm no matter how badly his guests play golf. And, his
knack for perfect comebacks is evident in the way he deflects his visitors’ teasing
of his own extremely challenged game.
In person via phone, Brown is as perky as he appears on TV. With verve and élan
that matches his grand sense of humor, he answered the following questions:

Lessons
from a Master Documentarian
By Laurie Smith
Peter von Puttkamer, granted an Accolade best of show award for The Real Lost World,
has been successful at creating fascinating documentaries for a quarter of a century.
The Real Lost World is an adventure of epic proportions. It captures a team of science
experts who set out to discover the aftermath of pre-historic life on mostly uncharted
Mount Roraima, a 5,000-foot plateau in Venezuela steeped in legend. It was the setting
of the 1884 British Royal Geographic Society’s expedition of Thurn and Perkins.
That expedition inspired the fictional account in Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1912 novel, The Lost World. Doyle’s was the first-ever novel about dinosaurs and resulted in
the 1925 movie version of The Lost World, featuring Wallace Beery, and later, the
Jurassic Park films. The documentary lifts viewers from their seats with sweeping
cinematography, dramatic music and nail-biting anticipation of what the expedition
may, or may not, discover.
